Shilley Lipon, with the presence of Dr. Alejandro López Osornio Director of the DNSIS and Dr. Guillermo Reynoso
This unprecedented event marks a milestone in the Argentine interoperability incorporating a fundamental tool for health information systems.
Argentina has joined SNOMED International in January 2018, as the country number 31. From that moment the terminology is available for free access throughout the territory.

SNOMED CT is a global clinical terminology, maintained and updated by SNOMED International, an organization composed of 31 member countries, forming a global standard for the representation of health information.
SNOMED is presented as the best option in terminological interoperability, without other standards that compete at the level of clinical terminologies. The creation of the IHTSDO has ensured its implementation in the member countries, where the vast majority of national health informatics projects exist in the world, transforming SNOMED CT into the "lingua franca" of terminological interoperability in health. Likewise, the World Health Organization (WHO) has established an agreement with the IHTSDO where SNOMED CT will be part of ICD-11 (CIE 11), which will be composed of statistical categories similar to ICD-10, but with formal definitions based on SNOMED, generating an automatic and natural mapping between both terminologies.
